Our Why
A Childs Life Learning Center is initiating a fundraising campaign to renovate our outdoor play area
Our current outdoor learning space features gravel, grass and cement play areas, chain link fencing, and outdoor toys, but no playground equipment. We do our best to make the environment a fun and engaging outdoor space for our children. We currently have to rely heavily on outdoor toys, games and imaginary play.
The loose gravel is in need of replacement for a number of reasons. Rocks can be scattered, cause harm, and wear and tear on other playground equipment/toys is quicker than other materials would be. Loose gravel also hinders us from being an ADA accessible playground. We will replace the gravel with safety turf that will not only alleviate these issues but allow for improved fall radius for children.
A chain link fence allows protection but little privacy for our children. A greater level of safety and privacy is an important part of our role in keeping children safe and comfortable while in our care and will be accomplished through black privacy slatting.
Children see a vast variety of physical benefits through playground play including:
- Improved flexibility and balance
- Development of overall motor skills, dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Opportunities to learn how to control their movement
- Improved instincts
- Promotion of healthy heart and lung function
- Stronger muscles
- Improved immune function
- Lowered risk of obesity and diabetes
