Preschool

Preschool

Ages 2 ½ – 3

The Preschool Program focuses on establishing growth in movement (fine and gross motor skills), potty training, developing language skills and the alphabet, learning numbers & how to count, and “how to’s” to develop more independence (how to get dressed, put shoes on, put a coat on, etc.). We also focus on further developing your child’s social and emotional skills through group learning and play. The program is led by many of our amazing teachers, some of which also like to incorporate their knowledge of other languages into their daily lessons by teaching simple words, phrases, and songs.

As the children progress in their mental and physical development, they will soon be prepared to enter our Pre-Kindergarten program!

We have a large selection of centers and toys for the children to have access to in the classroom. Our centers include:

  • A Sensory Play area to help develop motor and problem-solving skills
  • A Math Center to familiarize your child with numbers and counting
  • An Art Center to promote creativity
  • A Dramatic/Imaginative Play area to encourage social interaction
  • A Free Play area where your child can choose what they would like to play with
  • A “Cozy Corner” where your child will have access to books, blankets, and a safe space to relax and cool off when they are feeling upset

An example of a fine motor learning activity we provide includes threading yarn through holes in shaped objects such as a small worm at the end of a string being threaded into a wooden apple. For gross motor skills, we have a gathering time daily for movement activities like stretching and dancing. For art, we may sometimes have painting activities and your child will always have access to chalk and crayons. We teach about shapes, colors, and letters with colorful flashcards designed to be exciting for your child.

A Child’s Life aims to provide a safe, caring classroom environment where emotions can be expressed and validated. During group activities, your child will learn the key social skills needed to work, communicate, and get along with others. They will learn how to politely tell others to respect their personal space and to express their feelings and emotions. We will teach them how to apologize, how their actions may affect others in different ways, and how to share. It is important to us that your child never feels like they are unheard.

At A Child’s Life, we recognize how vital it is for this age group to be learning to use the bathroom. We keep a schedule to not only help adapt your child to a routine, but to also help them learn to use the toilet and to wash their hands thoroughly. Diaper changes are done routinely and as needed. All meals are provided and are “home-cooked” in our kitchen.

The only requirements to enroll your child in the Preschool program is for them to be self-feeding and walking.
